I love trying out new things and I was really excited to be asked to guest design for Top Dog Dies recently. Top Dog Dies is a new online store that offers their own brand of wafer-thin and steel-rule dies, along with dies from brands you already know and trust, including Little B, Lawn Fawn, Taylored Expressions, Savvy Stamps and Cheery Lynn Designs. Top Dog Dies is also the leading U.S. retailer for Tattered Lace, a new line of intricate dies designed by British designer Stephanie Weightman. I was thrilled when they sent me a lovely selection of their own brand of dies to try out.
Today’s card creation is one I designed with their Ornate Gate Die. It’s aptly named as the beautiful intricacy of this die is just lovely. I decided to use it without any special techniques on the die cut to let it’s beauty shine through. The gate is die cut from some Bazzil Card Shoppe cardstock as the heavier cardstock holds up really well with the delicacy of this die cut.
Quick Tip: Adhere intricate dies carefully with liquid adhesive. Only the tiniest amounts are needed to prevent the adhesive from pressing out and being visible. I used Ranger Glossy Accents to adhere this die cut.
While guest designing for Top Dog Dies, I also created a couple other projects and one tutorial to share with you. You can find them here on the Top Dog Dies’ blog.
To create the background behind the die cut, I sponged on some distress ink and then flicked on some opaque white Maya Mist. A heat gun dries things up quickly. The sentiment is just stamped onto a banner created from a hand notched rectangle that I cut with my paper trimmer. The sweet little roses (I know! Again! I’m addicted to them!) are arranged around the sentiment to draw your eye and also allude to a garden gate. I just had to sneak in a little more flair too from A Flair for Buttons. Love!
Top Dog Dies is also having a giveaway this month that you don’t want to miss! The winner will receive $50 worth of exclusive dies from Top Dog Dies (your choice!). How awesome is that?! Deadline to enter is Sunday, August 31 at midnight Central Standard Time. Good luck!
