With all the beautiful June weather, I’m outside a lot more and it’s really inspiring my design process. This card celebrates the natural beauty of woodgrain and foliage and makes a beautiful thank you card design. The layout for this project is inspired by the latest MFT Stamps sketch challenge. I love the Wednesday sketch challenges! They give a wonderful place to start and always get rid of creative block when I’m not sure what I want to create.
This week’s MFT Stamps sketch is #MFTWSC284. A symmetrical design with a mix of shapes, you’re sure to enjoy it. So many possibilities! You can find all the details here on the MFT Challenge Blog.
I’ve made this sketch my own but changing up the sizes of the circle and square elements. I’ve also swapped out a band of card stock for the long vertical layer and instead used wraps of twine to add texture and “tie” it all together. Yesterday I showed you the new Whimsical Woodgrain Background from MFT but today I’m using the Woodgrain Backround stamped in Natural Ink on Smooth White Card Stock. I absolutely adore them both and they give two different looks. Do you have a favorite?
To create the background layers I’ve paired up a few large stitched rectangle layers from Blueprints 20 & 25. The foliage is Bold Greenery Die-namics die-cut from Sour Apple Cardstock. My favorite part of the design is the Layered Leaves die-cut that I’ve cut from Cherry Veneer.
Quick Tip: Add extra interest by adding watercolor spots. I love the random and organic look. Just load up your brush with lots of water and some watercolor pigment and tap the brush against your other hand to flick the color over your design.
All supplies for this project are listed below for your convenience. I hope you find some time to get sketchy! There’s always a chance to win something fab! Don’t forget, details and inspiration are here on the MFT Challenge Blog.
