There’s nothing like snow for Christmas. It seems that snow makes every thing clean and fresh and almost magical for the season.
I love creating snowy scenes for holiday cards for a pretty festive look but how do you do that? There are so many unique ways to get a snowy effect on card designs and I love using die-cuts for a quick and easy way to get that look.
Today’s card design features three different dies that make up the snowy scene. It’s all part of the upcoming October MFT Stamps release and we are counting it down. Today is day four, so there’s a few more days of fab sneak peeks to check out.
First of all, let’s check out the sweet little stitched snow on the mountain tops. It’s a die that’s designed specifically for snow and it makes a darling little scene. It’s called Snow-Capped Mountains Die-namics and to make the tops look white, I’ve die-cut them from Smooth White Card Stock while the lower sections of the mountains are die-cut from Grout Gray.
Another way I’ve added a snowy look to this card design is with another new die set, Snowfall- Vertical Die-namics. This is a great little dot background that really looks like falling snow. You can die-cut it from solid card stock and then layer the white card stock BEHIND the die cuts to make it look snowy. Here I’ve actually die-cut from white card stock as well and then sponged on two colors of ink to get a twilight look. The colors are Grapesicle and Sno Cone and I’ve repeated these colors again in card stock to make up the color combo.
That’s given me a snowy background and a snowy mid-ground and the final addition is some larger die-cut snowflakes in the foreground as embellishments. These are larger than life die-cut snowflakes and while they are not a new release, they are timeless and beautiful…a great addition to your holiday stash of paper crafting supplies. They are the Let It Snowflake Die-namics.
There’s also a another new addition that you’ll want to check out on this design. Sometimes you just have to stamp a background before you can see how pretty it is. I’ll be honest…I thought this Moroccan Lattice Background Stamp was lovely before I stamped it but then I DID stamp it… and wow!!! It’s gorgeous! And classic. And you can use it on anything!
Quick Tip: Try out new color combos on your holiday cards to freshen them up! I love trying out a new combo every year.
Just before I go, the sentiment I’ve added is a really sweet one from the new Merry Everything Stamp Set. It’s a darling Santa set and while I didn’t include the images here, I can’t wait to use them on another project.
Check out the MFT Stamps Blog as we countdown the next four days to the release! There’s tons of fab inspiration and more sneak peeks and yes, there’s a giveaway.
Keep it creative!
