This week has been absolutely gorgeous where we live. Fresh days that are warm but not hot and humid have us spending more time outside enjoying the beautiful weather. It’s inspired me to create a beautiful cloud/sky background for this card design and lots of lovely butterflies for today’s sketch challenge.
If you love to create from sketches, be sure to check out this week’s MFT Stamps sketch, #MFTWSC343. Today’s sketch features a beautiful oval focal point and an offset strip. I’ve kept it fairly close to the original and turned it 90° to create a vertical card design. I hope you’ll join in the challenge for some creative time! You can find all the details here on the MFT Challenge Blog. If you’ve never played along, it’s super fun and easy. I hope you’ll join us!
To start off my card, I created the background using Claritystamps Brushes and my new favorite stencil from MFT Stamps, the Mini Cloud Edges Stencil. It’s so easy to use and I just love the softness and beauty of each skyscape I create. For this card I’ve used Blue Raspberry Dye Ink. I started at the top of the card and added in each cloud layer as I worked towards the bottom. I’m always surprised at how quick and easy this technique is to do!
Quick Tip: Turn the stencil each time you use it to vary the cloud shapes and make the sky more natural and interesting!
Once I finished my background I added in the sentiment using the Misti to get placement just right. The sentiment is stamped directly onto the cloud background layer and while it doesn’t go entirely across the card panel, it is my take on the band at the bottom (or side) of the card sketch. “You are the sweetest” is from the More Essential Sentiment Stamp Set which is full of amazing sentiments.
To create the main focal point, I’ve die-cut an oval shape using the Stitched Oval Frame Die-namics from Smooth White Card Stock and adhered it to the card front with mini foam squares. The butterflies are a 3 step stamping set called Beautiful Butterflies and they’ve been stamped on the same Smooth White Card Stock die-cut using the Beautiful Butterflies Die-namics. The color palette used is Grapesicle, Tickled Pink, Cotton Candy, Coral Crush, Razzleberry and Grape Jelly Dye Ink Pads. To finish off the design, I added in a jute tied bow on the oval as a visual substitute for the banner shape on the sketch. I love sketches but remember they are just a jumping off point. Feel free to get creative with it!
I hope you find some time to get sketchy! There’s always a chance to win something fab!
Until next time…
