I love it when cards do something a little bit unique of unexpected. Interactive cards as always a great way to add something special and when you’ve also included a gift card, well…that’s just even better!
Today’s card is one I’ve created for a MFT Stamps DT challenge called Creative Construction with Blueprints Die-namics. It’s a challenge I try very hard each month not to miss because I’m such a huge fan of this die line! This month’s challenge is called Right this Way and it’s all about using arrows or directional dies to highlight a portion of the design.
I’ve paired up two Blueprints Die-namics sets for this card. The fab gift card holder in Blueprints 30 Die-namics gets a holiday spin on it and I’ve added in the chevron arrow die from Blueprints 28 Die-namics to really draw your eye down to the bottom of the flap that lifts up. It hides the gift card underneath. Both these Blueprints sets go so well together as they are both very cool interactive die sets with a flap that opens.
As I mentioned, I’m creating a Christmas card design for this card and that way I can insert a gift card inside and make this card into a present as well. High five! I’m already on my way to getting Christmas gift giving started!
To embellish the center of this card flap, I’ve turned to a couple sets that I love. By adding in the Let it Snowflake Too Die-namics it turns a floral bouquet into a winter holiday card design. The gorgeous florals are from the In Bloom stamp set and are die-cut with the In Bloom Die-namics set. You can see how I’ve layered them over the chevron die cut that hangs over the edge at the bottom to really point the way. The florals themselves can also go over the edges of the flap on the three cut sides. Leave the scored side of the flap free to open easily.
Above the flap you’ll find a sentiment stamped in Black Hybrid Ink from MFT Stamps. Season’s Greetings is from the new Dashing Deer Stamp Set. If you’re looking for a sentiment in your stash, don’t forget to check your image stamp sets. Often they’ll have sentiments that can be used on lots of different designs.
One of my favorite things about this card is the color combo! I want to use it again and so I’ve created a color combo chart for myself that I’d like to share with you as well. I think they are gorgeous for Christmas but I can see them for spring or summer as well depending on how you use them.
One tip I do have for putting together color combos is to vary the color saturation. Having a variety of light and darker colors really makes for a more pleasing look! Here’s how I’ve used them on this card design…
Card Stock Used: Grout Gray, Cherry Crisp, Summer Splash
Patterned Paper Used: Gray & White Basics Paper Pack
Dye Inks Used: Pink Lemonade, Cherry Crisp, Summer Splash, Cactus
As I mentioned, the chevron arrow element points to how the front flap opens on this design. Here’s a look at how it looks while opening…
…and the inside when the flap is fully opened. The gift card is held in place by a die-cut that is perfectly sized to hold a gift card. As I didn’t have a gift card on hand, I die-cut a dotted little panel that is included in this Die-namics set. It can be placed over a gift card if desired. I’ve also used this piece on the front of the design. You can see it in the grey chevron print paper. I’ved designed this card on a regular card base so that you can still add writing on the inside of the design.
